(Citrullus lanatus)  Developed by Dr. Hall from Kansas.  Also known as 'Green & White Ruby'.  Large, round, light green melon with dark green stripes and firm, deep red flesh with high sugar content.  Weighs 11-12kg.  Vigorous vine with fruit turning white-cream on the underside when ready for harvest.  Disease resistant.  Grows well in most climates.  85-90 days.  

HISTORY:  Watermelons originated from South Central Africa, and are aptly named for their 95% water content.  They were then taken to Mexico by Cortes in 1520, then being traded into North America where they continued to spread in popularity.
