***NOT TO WA*** (Allium cepa var. aggregatum) Medium to large, attractive, golden coloured bulb with pinkish tinge beneath outer skin. Great for stews, casseroles and making your own pickles and sauces - all with less peeling! Leaves also used as a replacement for spring onions. Easier to grow than onions - plant same time as you would garlic. One bulb will multiply into approx. 8-12 shallot bulbs attached at the base which may be dug and divided.
Shallots are generally milder and sweeter than onions and are especially useful in dishes where they are eaten raw such as dressings, sauces, salads and also desserts, quiches and custards.
